THE WATER GUIDE

Different water goals. Different tools.

Compare whole-home filters, water softeners, and reverse osmosis before choosing a system for your Dallas, Hiram, or West Georgia home.

Choose the job before the equipment.

A filter, softener, and drinking-water system can appear in the same proposal, but they are not interchangeable. Ask the provider to connect each item to a specific goal and to explain what would happen if that item were left out.

A quick comparison

OptionStarting questionWhat to review
Whole-home filterDo I want to address a concern throughout the house?Specific reduction claims and rated flow.
Water softenerIs measured hardness the issue?Sizing, regeneration, and routine care.
Under-sink or RO systemIs drinking and cooking water the priority?Target claims, output, fit, and recurring expense.
Well-water treatmentWhat do my test results show?A treatment plan based on the actual report.

One tank does not mean one treatment.

A combined carbon-and-resin tank can perform two different jobs. Resin reduces dissolved hardness minerals; carbon addresses the specific concerns listed for the selected media and system. The under-sink RO unit remains separate.

Compare actual media quantities, valve model, rated flow, and documented performance. A carbon-only tank, a softener-only system, and a combined package with RO are different purchases.

Check the exact certification.

A standard number is not a universal performance guarantee. Verify the complete model and its listed reduction claims. For example, NSF/ANSI 44 covers ion-exchange softeners and NSF/ANSI 58 covers reverse-osmosis systems. Certification and proper maintenance both belong in your decision.

Avoid buying a bundle you cannot explain.

Before agreeing, you should be able to say what each component does, why it was recommended, how much it costs to own, and who supports it. If any answer is unclear, request a simpler proposal.
